maybe if the homeserver wasn't a python piece of shit that takes like 8GB of RAM to run at 5mph and the clients weren't either heavier than slack or incomplete crashing trainwrecks then I would consider using it again. join #lolwut on Rizon IRC to know what a real chatroom is

@vulonkaaz @BlueStar The Python homeserver is the only one that's feature complete and fully supports federation, that's the one I used at the time

@BlueStar I love XMPP for one-on-one chats but I barely use the group feature, it's not very good for that

@shingo the things i don't like about matrix is that every client looks like discord, there is too many faggots in the public gcs i'm in (but its not that big of a deal.) and matrix saves metadata from the pictures you send (but i can't prove this its only something i heard about, it might just be the matrix.org homeserver.)

@Kodeine Even if making an account on XMPP is easy, they simply dont care. Were talking about people who rarely go out of the Windows+Chrome+Discord workflow they've been accustomed to for nearly 10 years now. I've found that it's difficult to redpill people like that even on something as basic as changing the default search engine. I could go on but then we'd be here a while. I suggest having a look at this writeup as it goes into more detail about the mental block as well as why so many people use Discord now. http://dre.freak.net/tech/discord/mind.txt

@chimaera The thing is that I did send my friends my new XMPP address and I even explained to them what it is and how to set it up and I never forced anyone to delete discord but only one added me and funny thing is that we've rarely talked to each other on discord and could barely be considered friends and we actually started talking and getting to know each other on XMPP and it's on there we found out that we have a lot in common and are good friends now and talk frequently. My friend and I never had any mental blocks because we're both white and only niggers get mental blocks and like King Terry Davis said: don't waste your time on niggers. If I didn't ditch discord then I probably wouldn't have a friend right now. It's not short sighted, it's cutting off the dead weight. Literally, discord is bloat.

Matrix is the middle ground between secure & private messaging and fun
It's not boring and dead like XMPP(Which is only really good for 1:1 and small groups of friends anyway)
And it's not all bells and whistles like discord(Which is only really good if you have no opinions about anything to get your account deleted over)
Matrix is a mess because it's neither one or the other but it's fun considering federation makes banning someone not a thing

@nobie137 blocking and banning are almost impossible with federation, which is why it's never been very popular ever

@nobie137 with the exception of the internet itself, which has money involved and is the only actual way to accomplish the goal of connecting everyone

@SkibidiCoffee No because the way it's done is by substituting the :emoji: syntax with something like <img src="https://matrix.home.server/_matrix/ab9201a8f820c02f" alt=":emoji:"> which is done on the client side because no one's going to type out an entire html tag every time they want to send a custom emoji, obviously this is pretty trivial to implement but not all client developers prioritize it I assume, some clients don't even support e2ee but that's more of an issue of developers abandoning it and the code becoming outdated. One feature that's also something I think every matrix client should have is multi-account, currently only fluffychat and mirage(outdated) supports it I think but it's definitely something people need considering having an alt account is expected on matrix because the main homeserver you use can go down but someone elses will still be up meaning you can continue chatting despite the homeserver being down(Unless you selfhost it in which you'd fix yourself) :-)
