@mattwo7 Also if I understand the international treaties correctly, it doesn't even really matter where the servers are.

Sites like BitChute always gain some points with me for having a download button for the video that's available to users. Keep in mind, technically, your computer has to download at least parts (in case of streaming just some segments) or all of it (for a full watch/view) to your computer anyway, and not offering a download button is just lazy, deliberately causing inconvenience, tolerating/inviting loss, or in the best case (understandably) saving some bandwith, in case some lunatics (or bots/crawlers) go around downloading everything for a full backup.

@mattwo7 Could be multiple video sites "sharing" the same content/uploads (content-addressing and p2p-hosted), and it's just UI overlays insofar the sites/platforms go, but wonder if they actually do that, because they're also competing, and you also have video upload and conversion still, and accounts/login are all different, starting from an empty channel instead of importing on content-address/hash.

@skreutzer If I have enough reason to trust the people running a site, I'd rather avoid using it. They even deleted their comment on my old first impressions video on YT saying they'd explain exactly how their webtorrent stuff works.

6:31 D.tube is/was probalby a/the video site branch of the Steemit crypto currency "get paid for your content" thingy, with integrated wallet and stuff, but either their tech broke or cost of hosting grow faster than income, either way, is now pretty much defunct, but had an active community some time ago (despite was mostly shilling some crypto or stocks or self-/content-promotion -- with some people really very, VERY, *VERY* convinced that this will be the future of payments, currency, media). Some generous person gave me a few DTC (?) there, maybe from the site itself for uploading relatively regular stuff, but for some reason the DTC or Steem or whatever vanished and went to 0.00 again, fine, and that was that I guess? I think without DTC/Steem/power or whatever the currency is, maybe my uploads got all deleted/removed again? So I wasted the time manually uploading, no?

@skreutzer Hmm. Looks like the D.tube people are fixing the site again. I guess after the previous guy/team vanished, there's always some fresh and optimistic/ambitious new people picking it up and "reviving", for however long they can run with it. Don't know, maybe it's the same guy/team, and just temporarily their site/hosting/wallets/login broke (for several months).

@skreutzer Eh crypto is a grift and the market is crashing and burning right now. Something about "bear market". It rebounds sometimes but it's still on a downward trend overall.

I like how VidLii looks like YouTube did back when it was good. I just wish VidLii would fix the video quality issue. One you forgot was Stroyfire, Its good, but it needs work. Storyfire was created by a YouTuber who got sick of YouTube's Puritan mindset. Only problem is you have to get approved to upload videos there. It took me 3 months to get my trailer approved.

@AlexLototsky Yea, they make you get their crypto before you can upload or mirror your channel and like Bitchute, they outright lied about being decentralized because the videos are hosted on modified WebTorrent software.
The data stored on the blockchain is just a verification of ownership that means just as little as an NFT.
300% grift.
