This was about the time in vanilla Spongebob that I began to root for Squidward over all other characters. In the original episode, he just kept being screwed out of his comfortable survival by The Writing itself. If you want a character to be seen as a chew toy by the audience, you should at least let him eat some of the food that miraculously assembled from the sky. That's just my two cents on how I grew up specifically during the watching of the original Club Spongebob episode.
