Views Don't Matter

We've all had passion projects go unrecognized while our halfhearted efforts are praised. Do not let this lead you astray from the joy of the former.

i understand your point but the problem with the people who say views dont matter or that they only make videos for fun is if they truly held those beliefs they would be only having their videos in their camera roll and never showing it to anyone if they truly only cared about having fun. sure i make videos for fun but i like views and attention. if i didnt care about that i would be having the videos on my device and never posting it anywhere on the internet if i actually didnt care

Your example of a heartfelt video getting next to nothing and something dumb like Katy Perry remix getting over 100,000k is relatable as fuck , I like the animatics I've made and had fun making em but Everytime I post them they get next to nothing, shit the ones I uploaded on my YouTube still have no views. I shit you not one morning I made a shitty edit while taking a dump and for some reason that video popped off , shits weird

I agree that you should make content for yourself first and foremost, but there is a certain enjoyment that comes from seeing your content appreciated by others and connecting with them over it. Since this is the internet, the view count can serve as an indicator of said appreciation.
I personally think that comments, both positive and negative, are a better indicator. A single person writing out his honest opinion on your content can be much more meaningful than a million views and likes.

I want views though, because I want what I make to be appreciated by others. Sure I make my content for myself first, but I think others finding what I put together to be good is satisfying.
It does tend to be that my worst videos tend to perform the best for whatever reason. The most views I've ever received on YouTube was a terrible YouTube Poop I made when I was 11 in 2008 that somehow has 17,259 views despite being absolutely terrible (that you can find on my VidLii channel as well).
I'd love to have just one hit that is something that I am proud to have made. I guess it is easy for you to say that views don't matter when you have gotten enough of them. It is hard to continually watch all of my best videos struggle to reach 1,000 views with most never reaching that number.

@milkdrinker It isn't VidLii that I'm frustrated with. My videos do well comparatively to the size of the site. I am glad for all the support I get here.
No, my real concern is with how my videos perform on YouTube. YouTube has recently been taking away views from my videos. Now it might be bots watching my videos for some reason, but it sucks that recently I put out 2 videos that had 400+ views thinking that maybe if I continued making the AMVs I've been putting out recently that it would lead to some success. YouTube decides that now one of the videos only has 114 views and the other 302. That just feels discouraging as hell. To make matters worse the two I released after aren't doing nearly as good.
My videos on VidLii get a ton of support, usually close to the top viewed video of the day. For that I am grateful. Even my lowest effort videos get tons of views. Look at how my JohnnyLoverBoy video is doing, for being just a picture and music I degraded to hell.

@milkdrinker As for the RedTheNEET situation, that one makes me very sad. He was one of my favorites on VidLii, like 95% percent of the reason I returned to VidLii and found my passion for making videos again. I was devastated when MyGenuineSneed pointed out that Red was gone.
