This song in particular is a bit of a hit for me because of its subject. My father was a soldier whom had seen a lot of the world, of course he didn't see the horrors of the Great War, but he had seen things that scarred him for life. The imagery of the endless waves and waves of crosses really does it, showing the hundreds of thousands of young men who had died in a war for nothing.
