@11ryance Misinformed yet it's a result of my own testing. ok.

@Skater24481 What GPU's? AMD Vega is providing 7 support. Hell even the GTX 1080 can work on Vista (albeit limited, 7 is advised)
Mobile video cards, yeah. That's getting a little scarce. But don't underestimate the desktop world. I can technically use XP on this rig, if I wanted to. (its anything but an old/low end system)
Bottlenecks? I'm afraid you're misinformed. Some older tittles simply won't even work on 10. That said, the lack of DirectX 12 sets an inevitable timebomb for gaming below 10. Unless Vulkan and OpenGL gain some traction by then. I'll probably be forced to dualboot 10 in due time for the purpose of gaming.
Funnily enough, AMD's Ryzen platform before patches actually yielded the best results on 7. MS swiftly fixed that up though.

@11ryanc Most GPUs don't support Windows 7 now-a-days and the limitations of 7 will bottleneck games, most of the time.

@Skater24481 7 is still largely supported. Intel's Skylake platform is a little tricky as you have to install using ps/2 peripherals. Biggest hurdle is laptops.

@11ryanc I like vista, but 7 is my favorite modern OS. If vendors still supported 7, i'd use it over 10 any day.

I don't use dosbox; it's emulation. I installed the MEDOS patch so i get pure DOS on ME. Not interested in NT.

@Skater24481 I also happen to prefer Vista to 7, but that's not very feasible on a z97 chipset. Have you ever tried using Win2k with something like DOSbox? You retain old compatibility, but open up a huge door to NT written software. You can even go as high as 32 GB of RAM with UUR/Extended Kernel.

@11ryanc I don''t do VMs but actually, i think Windows ME is the most stable OS that microsoft has made. I prefer it to 98 and i stuck with it until 2007 then went to Vista.

I use it for my vintage gaming PC.

I was never interested in Windows NT OSs.

Ah WinME. Probably in the minority here for preferring it over 98 SE, lol. I'm really not a fan of 9x at all though, but I happen to think Win2k is awesome. Probably the most stable version of Windows ever at that. Still usable with some modern software with kernel mods. I've run it on 8 cores and 4 GB of RAM before in a VM setting.
