Thoughts on Vidli's recent drama/The Spiderfan Mentality

In case you're wondering, I'm subbed to CL21 on YouTube and saw the news. Something like this was bound to happen eventually.

I fully expect Spiderfan to make a commentary misconstruing all of my points and making pointless ad hominem. Don't care, dig that proverbial grave of yours, feel free to use my video Spiderfan, I'm not AT, I know what fair use is. You're not fooling anyone at this point anyway...

1:52 It's gratis online video hosting, so do you care? I only care about the time investment of manually uploading the videos and putting the metadata in, one at a day, which amounts to some work at roughly approaching ~100 videos, and I mind about loosing comments and contacts and links to the place for a given shutdown, but software one day will come to the rescue. I too can't imagine that BitChute works totally decentralized, despite theoretically possible. It's just that they probably are using a big data center in the background, using or abusing AWS or some other hosting somewhere somehow, and the fact that little is known about it is pretty "interesting". Not to worry about, but could vanish one day.

@skreutzer I'm not going to waste my time on something that's been proven to constantly fail. I'm only uploading videos about recent events that serve to prove me right about these sites now. Besides, there's still a 2G cap here and several of my older videos are bigger than that and I'm not going to waste my time splitting them apart. Especially not after what happened here.

As for Bitchute though, sites run by people who couldn't be trusted always wind up being a waste of my time. I'll stick with the sites that have been around the longest. Besides, YouTube has better communities and better content. Bitchute has a front page full of right-wing nutjobs sitting of a camera spouting bullshit. Meanwhile YouTube greets me with videos relevant to my interests with plenty of videos I watched and videos I might watch at some point.

@mattwo Hello. You don't know me. But, I am a newer face on the site. I am a friend of CL21's and I was stabbed in the back by Spiderfan. I'll gladly talk to you more about this.

@WeirdAsCrapVide As I said in the description, I know what fair use is. Frankly I put no real effort into this video so outside of defamation reasons, I have no reason to bother with removing videos that use it.

Okay, so here's a Jan vs Alisson comparison. Jan was too soft on the trolls. They were allowed to run rampant on the website until so many people started to complain about it. A lot of people had to ignore these trolls at the time. Once Alisson joined in, he slowly but surely removed the trolls. Then, finally, Jan left VidLii, leaving Alisson on his own. Alisson removed an offensive video showing a picture of a cat pissing on the word "niggers". Some of the best content creators started complaining about this and they got banned for it. Then it started lots of backlash and they got banned for it too. They started posting videos of them leaving VidLii because Alisson is being such a jerk! Alisson then banned those people as well. So, he ended up banning over 40 people who didn't deserve to be banned.

I know you haven't logged into VidLii since last month so I figured I'd mention that.

@mattwo Logan Paul and PewDiePie are username impersonations. Some fan of their channels just reuploaded their videos on here so that they can get views and get a piece of their fame from it. The way I see it, I would ban those channels if I were mod.

@jhirzel88 For that first part I was talking about Jan's perspective on how the site should be moderated. Jan wants to ban all accounts who make drama videos, as I mentioned before in this very thread, please try to pay more attention...

Also, why the hell did you think I was talking about accounts on Vidlii when it comes to PewDiePie and Logan Paul when I said "it's something that separates him from YouTube's current administration"? I didn't even know those existed here.

Just to be clear, I am well aware of Alison's coding skills. Louis and Fawz also hired him for that very reason.

@mattwo Sounds like a good strategy. After all Alison caused a near downfall. We have to be careful

@mattwo The Internet Archive is paying for AWS with the money of a private donator. Wonder how the Canadian branch is set up though.

It's just something that happens naturally, these YouTube alternatives eventually shut down for whatever reason; but VidLii may end up being an acception to the rule even though it closed down before as VidBit, depending on how things go this time. Upload Society has been around for many years since it last closed down, but that website was never going to be a viable option because of the partially toxic community, it's terrible website / channel layout and people not really being able to upload on there.

As for BitChute, I gave up on that website after I tried to upload a video I recorded using my PS4 and the website refused to upload the video and kept giving me an error I can't remember; it was just a regular MP4 file and it wouldn't let me upload it and the staff just assumed I couldn't upload the video because it was a music only video file or something. Any time I have a situation where the staff doesn't know what's going on, I just quit the website.

@Magnificent It's not just the shutdowns that are the issue. I don't expect this site to go anywhere soon, Jan is very good at covering his buttocks and he did ultimately clean up the mess which is at least more competence shown by him than Vidme's staff, Louis or Alison I have to say.
