That started in the early 1990s with "The Return of Jafar" and then it just snowballed out of control. The most infamous example (even though it wasn't Disney) was "The Land Before Time" with 14 films... OwO;

It's gotten pretty out of hand lately. It's become the 2010s-2020s equivalent of all the "Pokémon" knock-off series that were prevalent in the late 1990s and throughout the 2000s.
