@Fairyfan don't be. There's a bigger chance you die in a plane crash or terror attack than there is of a hydrogen gas explosion. Even in 1970s plants. Seriously, how many meltdowns have there been, six? That's out of about 1200 reactors made. Three happened here in the US, but only one happened after the technology was even close to what we have today, the rest happened in plants from before we knew what we were doing and those from other countries.

If you're talking about a fission explosion, then there's as much chance of that happening as there is of the sky turning green. In thermal reactors, the moderator keeps the reaction slow. In fast reactors, there's only enough fuel to keep the reaction going, not just that but the negative temperature coefficient of reactivity keeps it from undergoing anywhere even near two-times neutron multiplication. You'll first see a rabbit pull a human out of a hat before you see a fission explosion from a reactor.
