The Iraq Campaign 1991 A Television History - by Phil Patiris (1992)
This film was an inspiration to me both a creatively and ideologically. Patiris splices hours of television broadcasts together into a scathing critique demonstrating just how blurry the lines of entertainment and the military industrial complex were at the time, a disturbing trend that has continued into today.
"It was called the Gulf War, the Showdown in the Gulf, even Desert Cloud (just once)... it was of course Desert Storm, the Mother of all Broadcast News entertainments and sleek presentations that now define modern mass media coverage[...] [it] endures through these postwar years as an illustration of the continuing convergence of American news and entertainment... and of how the electronic magic and power of television can be wielded by Corporate Media as a device for mass public influence in cooperation, or even partnership, with government and industry."
