Asphodel Petals by me Christian Gould collegeprojectpoem

Poem I wrote for college.

Asphodel Petals:

Darkness did not divide young asphodel petals.
It did not build stone columns as borders,
Around their seeded thrones,
From which their roots stem into earth,
Eating mouthfuls of dirt, of nutrient brain-power.
They think for themselves.
Like springs they soar high on hiatus,
Reaching with green stalks of life.
Yet they come in all colors,
Each planting a vision, rising into the atmosphere,
Crossing every divide,
Decimated against the spirit of our new age.
Darkness does not blind them,
They don't need light to grow,
Just the idea of it.
All our blooming youth need to know:
Is that they get to choose.
