Maybe I'm too old to get the "hype" around Discord (well, I guess it's more substantial than just a mere hype) as there's already e-mail, discussion boards, IRC, whatever, even hyped Slack. My impression is that the two major benefits are that it also runs on the web, so no installation is required, and that it supports voice (not that we haven't heard about that ever before). At the same time, I see a lot of messages just scrolling through, on a lot of different discords, and there are few tools to manage it. I wonder why Discord had the chance to present this as something new and we didn't have some kind of existing software package adding voice as a feature in a much better way than Discord or WhatsApp can ever do.
