Btw the theory rests on the active participation of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, who was a fervent Catholic (since he was Irish) and he used all that stuff about the missile crisis to pressure Russia to recognize the Second Vatican Council. That is why in 2016 the most important ecumenical meeting was held in Cuba:

By the way, this may sound crazy, but there is a somewhat strange conspiracy theory circulating about the missile crisis that it was a way of putting pressure on the Russian Orthodox Church to present itself to the Second Vatican Council, which was just taking place in those days, that is, the missiles were already known, but the drama did not begin until the papal council began. Pretty weird.
