Mandarin is too pointlessly complicated, a lot of the language is dependent on dialect. Someone from Nanjing could say the same sentence as someone from Beijing and it would mean something totally different. Xi has been forcing all Chinese to learn the same language for a while now because of how disorganized it is. Hard to run a country when saying "Go build irrigation canals in Ningxia" could also mean "Cut down 1/3rd of the trees in Ningxia"
Would be more worth it to learn Korean, since there's a good chance whatever Chinese you learn will mean something radically different in a few years.
