40 years ago today, Klaus Nomi went back to his planet. He was 39, so his time on Earth is now even shorter than his time out of it. He and Jobriath were among the first openly gay artists to die from AIDS in August 1983. The saddest part was that he was all alone.

Klaus Nomi was an icon of the East Village Art Scene, directed by Ann Magnuson. He had an operatic voice and an alien-like persona with robotic movements. He even performed backing vocals for Bowie. Nomi would also perform with special guests like Joey Arias, John Sex, Keith Haring, Kenny Scarf, and even the legendary Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Joey Arias was his right hand man and the executor of his estate.

I may repost some of his HQ music videos from his YouTube channel. But this live performance was my favorite.
