Jewish Autonomous Region (Yiddish ייִדישע אויטאָנאָמע געגנט) is a subject of the Russian Federation, part of the Far Eastern Federal District, Far Eastern Economic Region.
The administrative center is the city of Birobidzhan. The region it borders in the south with China (along the Amur River), in the west with the Amur Region, and in the east with the Khabarovsk Territory. The Jewish Autonomous Region is the only subject of the Russian Federation that has the status of an autonomous region, as well as the only Jewish administrative-territorial entity in the world, besides Israel, with official legal status.
