What is killing entertainment?

I talk about why entertainment is dying and what can be done to combat this issue. If we can't find the lulz, we are wasting precious time.

Social justice didn't kill internet content, and it hasn't completely killed TV... yet. The biggest problem is funding in the commercial sphere. Many companies that fund movies, shows, and other such media have very strong political motives, and strongarm the projects that they fund to fit with their narrative. This happens with all media companies with a bias, unfortunately, both left and right. As for internet content, the content that has become mainstream and received mainstream attention and funding have been molded by its patrons. Media that used to be edgy and interesting has been gradually changed to entertain the lowest common denominator. A good example of lowest common denominator content are the videos that appear on the YouTube front page. The fact about media as a whole, is that when it becomes corporate, it stops being a stubborn individual, and becomes a malleable company, whose goals can be changed using money. Money, politics, power. That's all it is.

Politics also kill entertainment. You can watch the news, watch a sitcom, or even the late night shows without some political bullshit happening! It seems all I ever se and hear is "Fuck Trump! Fuck Trump! Fuck Trump!"; no creativity anymore! 🙄 Even De Niro had to ruin the award show by saying "Fuck Trump."
People just don't wanna let go of the fact that their grandma figured lost and have nothing productive to do or talk about in life other than complain, complain, complain!
It's like I'm watching shows and even living in a world run by KIDS! 😝 If they don't get their way, they'll cry for years over it and even try to get other people to align with them to get what they want.
Personally, I believe WE are the issue, not Trump.

@joshthejosher Also a good point, politics should not be brought into comedy unless both sides are treated and criticized fairly. "Fuck Trump" isn't creative, the 1940 film "The Great Dictator" on the otherhand, was actually good political satire that had things to say!

Good video, I also believe another reason which has to do with the decline of entertainment is that we live in a time of constant stimulation. With the internet, entertainment has become so widespread, and because of this, it no longer becomes entertaining. People would get excited of seeing the new cartoons on Saturday morning, but now with things such as Netflix, you can binge entire cartoons within a day, essentially making said cartoon stale. As for movies, movies have fallen into formulas, sequels make money, and because of this, people will make sequels of already big movie titles instead of trying to make their own original ideas because that's what's big and gets the directors more money. This is my analysis at least

@superdoglogan
It's a real shame that we have indulged in entertainment when back in the day, entertainment was right in front of us in the form of guests congregating. Parties were the ultimate form of entertainment. Now that people have smart phones, iPads, and console gaming, there's partying is reaching all time lows. Men and women are so uptight that not even a drink will make them cozy up for a conversation.

@edray1416 Yeah, there aren't any good parties no more. Parties also are seen as "dangerous" nowadays which is a shame.

@KoiYTP Nowadays, whenever I hear someone throw out the R-card, I'll be like,
"You keep using that word........I don't think that means what you think it means." 😏

@joshthejosher @KoiYTP Yes. Jontron used no racial slurs and was just saying if white people all to blame for Trump than we could argue the same towards black people and Obama. He lost fans and a job on a game for trying to argue one race isn't to blame for Trump being in office anymore than one race is to blame for Obama in office. It was nonsense and I really doubt anyone knows what the word racist means now. Besides this is a guy that got away with a Nazi joke back in his Game Grumps days.
